Food for Babies and Toddlers

Infant food can be divided into initial milk and follow-on milk. You can give both pre-milk and 1st milk to your baby from the beginning. Pre-milk can be administered fairly well as a supplement to breast milk. However, you should always make sure to breastfeed first and then give the bottle with pre-milk. Unlike pre-milk, 1st milk already contains some starch, which provides better satiety. After the sixth month, it is usually time to introduce complementary foods and switch to 2nd milk. You can offer this follow-on milk to your baby, as well as the 3rd milk to be given from the 10th month, until the end of bottle feeding. The main distinguishing feature between 2nd and 3rd milk is the starch content, which may be slightly higher from the 10th month onwards.

Thanks to extensive research in the field of infant nutrition, there are now four different types to distinguish: The product is based on milk protein and lactose; it mainly consists of milk protein, lactose and additional carbohydrates; It is hydrolyzed protein (for HA food) or soybean protein isolate (guaranteed to be lactose-free in Germany). In our shop you will find infant formula from the Aptamil and Bio Hipp Combiotik brands, which are recommended by pediatricians, among other things. Since industrially produced infant milk formula is now very similar in composition to breast milk, you can confidently choose not to breastfeed. You do not have to fear that your baby will be more susceptible to illness if it is not breastfed.

Complementary food for babies

Milk remains the most important component of nutrition even after weaning or after the end of 1st milk feeding. However, the advancing physical and mental development of children increasingly requires additional nutrients and vitamins found in fruits, vegetables, and grains. After about six months, you can try to slowly introduce your baby to complementary foods. As a first puree, mild pureed vegetables (such as early carrots, parsnips, or pumpkin) are suitable. Rarely is the transition from the nipple to the spoon quick and easy. Rather, you can expect that it will take several attempts for most of the food to end up in the baby's mouth and also be swallowed. It is very practical to choose jarred food, which saves you the trouble of cooking and pureeing the vegetables. Just as with the milk food distributed here, you are also on the safe side with the complementary food products: As a dietary food, they must meet the requirements specified in the "Regulation on Dietary Foods". In particular, the addition of coloring, flavor-enhancing, and preservative substances is prohibited.

In our online shop you can choose from jars from various manufacturers and for different age groups. Simple milk, fruit, or vegetable puree is available for babies who are older than four months. The next stage is jarred food from the sixth month. Product examples include Bio Hipp Butter Vegetables with Sweet Potatoes and Bio Hipp Fine Fruit Puree. Apart from jars, you can also choose pureed food powders, which you only need to mix with warm water. Among other things, you will find Bebivita semolina milk porridge from 6 months in our product range. The next age group for complementary food products is eight months. This is followed by products suitable for children who are at least 10 months old. Finally, there are jarred foods and menus for children between the ages of one and three. Child-friendly drinks are not only water and unsweetened teas, but also mild juices and juice spritzers, which we can also offer you from various manufacturers.

The right nutrition for toddlers

Regardless of whether it is a baby or a toddler, nutrition must be balanced and include as many vitamins and minerals as possible. The more active your baby is, the quicker it gets hungry and thirsty. As soon as the first teeth come in, they can occasionally be given something to chew on. Fruit slices, fruit bars, and cookies are ideal. The latter are specially made for toddlers. For the sake of their teeth, such snacks should not contain any additional sugar. Among other things, you will find Hipp Red Fruit Bars (for children aged 1-3 years) in our shop. Instead of jarred food, you can also offer your one-year-old child child-friendly menus in practical plastic dishes. These can be heated to eating temperature either in the microwave or in a water bath. How about, for example, the Bebivita Potato Vegetable Pot with Ground Meat or the Bio Hipp Star Noodles with Italian Vegetables for 1-3 years?

Be sure to ensure that your baby gets enough fluids: The Research Institute for Child Nutrition (FKE) recommends that toddlers drink 600 to 700 milliliters of water, unsweetened tea, or diluted juice. Both in terms of drinking and eating habits, parents serve as role models for their offspring. Therefore, parents are also expected to set a good example at the table. Try to prefer healthy dishes and drinks together with your baby. Conversely, try to avoid sweets and unhealthy snacks such as chips and fries as much as possible.

Cleaning and caring for baby skin

Since a baby's skin is much more sensitive than an adult's, it must be treated all the more carefully. Baby skin usually reacts extremely sensitively to physical and/or chemical stimuli. In general, the younger the infant, the more sensitive the skin reacts. After all, the natural acid mantle has yet to fully develop. In particular, excessive cleaning of your baby's skin must be avoided. Soap or even alcohol-based cleansing lotions are absolutely taboo. Normally, it is completely sufficient to clean your child with some warm water and a washcloth and then dry it gently. It is useful to clean one body region at a time (from top to bottom). If you want to give your baby a bath once or twice a week, you must pay attention to baby-suitable water and room temperatures. The Hipp Babysanft Care Bath is a bath additive that is suitable for the smallest ones and that you should use very sparingly, just like the other care baths available in this shop. Washing hair is only necessary when there is something to wash - that is, when hair is present instead of hair fluff. If your baby does not have dry skin, you do not need to cream it every day. If there are occasionally dry spots on the face and hands, this is usually due to the weather conditions, and a nourishing baby cream like the Bubchen Wind & Weather Cream quickly provides relief.

Diapers & Accessories - An Important Part of Baby Care

While a kind of cat wash usually suffices for most of the body, the baby's bottom requires very careful cleaning. At home, you should again prefer cleaning with lukewarm water and a washcloth. However, if you are in a hurry or on the go, you can also choose cleansing baby care wipes. Our shop offers you and your offspring, for example, the choice between Pampers Sensitive wipes and Penaten lotion wipes.

Under Diapers & Accessories you will find diapers from the Pampers and EDEKA Elkos brands, which are not only breathable and skin-friendly, but also have elastic cuffs and a safe leak protection. We carry diaper sizes medium (4-9 kilograms body weight), maxi (8-15 kilograms body weight), and junior (11-25 kilograms body weight). The EDEKA Elkos changing mats are extremely practical and enable a hygienic diaper change, especially when on the go. At 60 x 60 centimeters, they are large enough and provide safe leak protection.
