The most popular types of pasta

Both Romans and Greeks were already making pasta in the 4th century BC. It is still common, especially in Italy, to make pasta from scratch. To do this, a dough made from semolina, water, salt and olive oil must first be prepared. The right level of firmness of the dough is achieved by kneading for about 20 minutes. Afterwards, the dough should be left to rest for about half an hour at room temperature. Depending on what shape the pasta is to take, a sharp knife may be sufficient to cut the rolled-out dough into noodles. Otherwise, stamps or perforated plates must be used. In Germany, the most commonly eaten non-filled pasta types are Spaghetti, Tagliatelle, Penne and Farfalle. Germans prefer Tortellini and Ravioli as filled pasta. In this online shop, you can order Gut & Günstig Penne Rigate and De Cecco Spaghetti, for example. If you prefer organic products, we can offer you, among other things, Bio EDEKA Fusilli Hartweizen and Bio EDEKA Spaghetti Vollkorn.

Preparing pasta properly

What needs to be considered when cooking pasta so that it turns out really good? You definitely need a sufficiently large cooking pot: fill it to about three quarters with cold water. On the one hand, the pasta must have enough space to move around, and on the other hand, the water must not boil over. If, on the other hand, there is too little water in the cooking pot, some of the pasta may stick to the bottom. The optimal ratio of salt, pasta and water is usually summarized as "ten, hundred, thousand". Accordingly, for 100 grams of pasta, use 10 grams of salt and one liter of water. Make sure to add the salt only after the water has boiled. When the salt is completely dissolved, add the pasta to the boiling water. In general, the pot should remain open during cooking, and you should stir it every three minutes or so. The required cooking time is usually printed on the pasta packaging. Perfectly cooked pasta is pasta that still has a bit of bite, or is "al dente". It is useful to remove one of the noodles after the prescribed cooking time and check if you like the consistency. Do not rinse pasta unless you are making pasta salad. A strainer or a sufficiently large sieve is used to drain the pasta. The best way to combine pasta and sauce is when both are still hot. Therefore, you can serve both mixed in a large preheated bowl.

Delicious alternative to pasta - Gnocchi

Gnocchi are small dumplings made from either potatoes or semolina/cornmeal. In the case of gnocchi made from potato dough, the Italian name is "gnocchi di patate" and when using semolina, "gnocchi di semolino". Similar to pasta, you can cook gnocchi in boiling salted water. Apart from that, they can also be steamed or baked in the oven. Gnocchi go very well with both hearty meat dishes and mild vegetable dishes. Gnocchi have been made and enjoyed in Italy since the Middle Ages. However, they have a special meaning in Verona: for many centuries, gnocchi have been distributed to the people every year on Carnival Friday. The dumplings are served either with tomato sauce or with liquid butter and parmesan. Incidentally, gnocchi made from potato dough have only been around for about 200 years. Until the widespread use of potatoes, Italians made gnocchi from flour and water. In this shop, you can buy Edeka Italia Gnocchi Originale or Pfanni Gnocchi Italian Potato Dumplings, for example, to prepare a delicious dish. The Buitoni Gnocchi we also offer are not the dumplings just described, but another type of pasta that looks similar to the Conchiglioni rigati variety.

Tasty sauces as the perfect addition

What is quite common here is hardly found in Italy: serving pasta as a side dish to meat or vegetable dishes. Italians prefer to enjoy pasta as a first course, or "primo piatto". An example is spaghetti con aglio, olio e peperoncino. Apart from spaghetti, you need high-quality olive oil, garlic, chili peppers and flat-leaf parsley to prepare this dish. Both pasta with garlic and oil and pasta with butter (pasta al burro) are popular in Italy. Here, the most well-known variants are probably pasta with tomato sauce (al pomodoro), with minced meat (bolognese), and pasta with cream, eggs and ham (carbonara). In the subcategory of pasta sauces, we offer you a wide range of sauces with which you can quickly prepare a delicious intermediate or main course. How about Bertolli Pasta Sauce Parmesan or Knorr Tomato al Gusto Herbs & Garlic? Most of these ready-made sauces can simply be poured into a saucepan and heated for a few minutes over medium heat. Another option is to heat the sauce in a covered, microwave-safe container in the microwave. You can also use many of the products to prepare great pasta bakes.

Cooking complete pasta dishes as quickly as possible

An important ingredient for many pasta dishes is tomato paste and crushed or chunky tomatoes - among other things for lasagna and other casseroles. Order Valfrutta Tomato Paste and Oro di Parma Crushed Tomatoes, for example, to give your dishes a fruity tomato flavor. But you also want to have the opportunity to eat a complete pasta dish quickly from time to time? Then choose from the products you can find in the Pasta Dishes category. We offer Miracoli Arrabbiata Spaghetti 2-3 servings and Knorr Spaghetteria Bolognese 2 servings, for example. The Spaghetteria product group comprises a total of 12 different products, of which 11 are available from us. All Spaghetteria pasta dishes have in common that they are extremely easy to prepare: bring 500 milliliters of water to a boil and stir in the contents of the bag. Then let the dish continue to cook over medium heat and stir regularly for about five minutes. Your pasta dish is ready: you can serve it and enjoy it alone or with another person.
